Make the Switch to Thomson Gale PowerSearch -- InfoTrac Databases Migrate to New Platform

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., July 28, 2005 -- Thomson Gale, one of the world's leading reference publishers and a part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), has migrated several of their InfoTrac products to a revolutionary new online platform.

Thomson Gale PowerSearch is the cross-product tool that now allows users to search all InfoTrac and Gale Virtual Reference Library (eBooks) databases in the same search. This feature simplifies searching and improves content management since it allows custom collection development of both periodical and proprietary content.

Thomson Gale has migrated several InfoTrac products to Thomson Gale PowerSearch, including:

  • Academic ASAP
  • Expanded Academic ASAP
  • General Reference Center
  • General Reference Center Gold
  • Computer Database
  • Health Reference Center Academic
  • InfoTrac Custom Journals
  • InfoTrac Custom Newspapers
  • InfoTrac OneFile Legal Trac
  • Military and Intelligence Database
  • Professional Collection
  • Religion and Philosophy Collection
  • Once customers migrate to Thomson Gale PowerSearch, their users are able to launch a single search across one or many of their InfoTrac databases and more than 300 encyclopedias, almanacs and other references in eBook format. In addition, custom products of targeted information can be developed -- searchable using the same single-user interface.

Thomson Gale PowerSearch is a perfect combination of unparalleled content and innovative technology offering several benefits of migration, such as:

  • Tabbed results
  • Ease of use and training -- just one interface to learn
  • Accelerated research -- find answers faster
  • Collection customization
  • Improved subject guide
  • Improved indexing and improved access to those indexes
  • Helps reinforce multi-source, multi-discipline learning
  • The migration to Thomson Gale PowerSearch is optional -- no changes will be added to a customer's current InfoTrac subscription unless they have elected to migrate to this platform.
