A Photographic Record of Yad Vashem

Published by Primary Source Microfilm

This unparalleled collection unites more than 15,000 photographs from Nazi organizations, allied servicemen, underground organizations and the archives of various countries. Developed by the Yad Vashem Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority, Archives of the Destruction offers the most comprehensive pictorial record available of the atrocities of the Holocaust. It provides excellent background material as well as visual corroboration for those studying the historical roots of Nazi anti-Semitism and Jewish resistance during this period.

This collection chronicles the events before, during and after the Holocaust, with images from:

  • Austria
  • Bulgaria
  • Czechoslovakia
  • France
  • Germany
  • Holland
  • Hungary
  • Italy
  • Poland
  • Romania
  • Russia
  • Yugoslavia
Scenes of hardship and survival, battle and celebration, life and death are revealed. Images of pre- and post-war synagogues, ghetto life, abuse of Jewish citizens by Nazi soldiers, Jewish servicemen, the Nuremberg trials and other events are included. Large selections of photographs from many concentration camps are presented, including Majdanek, Treblinka, Auschwitz, Buchenwald, Dachau and Bergen Belsen, depicting a realistic view of the abuses suffered by prisoners.

Archives of the Destruction is accompanied by a bibliographic aid that gives the location of the picture, its geographic location of occurrence and a brief description. The microfiche containing these vivid images are numbered and stored in microform storage frames to facilitate location of specific pictures while protecting the film. A printed guide accompanies the collection.
