Holodomor: Famine in Ukraine, 1932 - 1933 (Central State Archive of Popular Organizations)

Published by Primary Source Microfilm

During the years of 1932 and 1933, the Ukraine suffered an intense famine, known internationally by its Ukrainian name "Holodomor." The famine affected Ukraine, the northern Caucasus and the lower Volga River area. Various sources state that Holodomor claimed between three and seven million lives in Ukraine alone.

Holodomor: The Famine in Ukraine, 1932-33 documents this Soviet-concealed tragedy, providing researchers for the first time ever access to resolutions, directives and telegrams from the Central Committee of All-Union Communist Party, the Soviet of People's Commissars and their mirror organizations in Ukraine; correspondence from local Party committees and executive committees of the local Soviets; official and private appeals of the regional party committees to higher Party authorities; memoranda and information reports from branches of state security, justice, and the prosecutor's office, as well as citizens letters. For researchers, finally the true causes and the chronological sequence of this national tragedy come to light.
