This collection, developed from the archives of the Moravian Church in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, contains over 1,600 documents on financial matters, papers of a historical nature, journals and letters written and received by Ettwein, and poems and other miscellaneous materials.

Ettwein, a leader and Bishop of the Moravian Church in the United States, is noted for representing the Moravians in negotiations with the Continental Congress and numerous government officials regarding the Moravians' scruples against bearing arms, as well as other major issues.

A printed bibliography and guide accompany the collection.
