The Scribner Encyclopedia of American Lives

  • Volume 8
  • Published by Charles Scribner's Sons

Each volume in this series presents original scholarly biographies of notable Americans. Articles range from 1,000 to 6,000 words, contain a photo of the individual, and provide a concise summary of achievements. Each volume contains cumulative occupation and birthplace indexes.

Review:

"The Scribner Encyclopedia of American Lives has established a reputation as an authoritative source of biographical information on Americans deceased since publication of the final supplement to Scribner's Dictionary of American Biography. As part of the series, this volume is highly recommended as an essential reference work for medium-sized to large academic and public libraries."
