  • Published by Primary Source Microfilm

From the Tanner Collection of Manuscripts in the Bodleian Library, Oxford

Thomas Tanner (1674-1735), author, churchman and indefatigable collector of manuscripts, was one of the key figures in the resurgence of historical and antiquarian research of the later 17th and early 18th centuries. As a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, chancellor of the diocese of Norwich and finally Bishop of St. Asaph, he was well placed in both academic and ecclesiastical worlds. His collection of manuscripts forms one of Britain's finest individually assembled archives.
