Fly Fishing: The Lifetime Sport

Retrieves: a broad range of retrieves is needed to simulate the natural motions of aquatic foods. The strip retrieve, pull retrieve, hand twist, sink and draw, lift off and settle, rise and fall, wind drift, count down and skating, a table for the retrieves most useful with that particular kind of fish food including lots of show and tell video.

Stream Characteristics: streams are classified into 3 categories spring creek, freestone, and tail water. The stream characteristics which are covered are: riffles, current seams, prime lies, resting lies, feeding lies, deep holes and dead waters. These are described to help you identify them as well as picturesque video and stills at the end of the chapter for your viewing. Shows you where to find fish.

Still Water Characteristics: each lake is unique. Most of a lake's water is barren because its fish seek specific areas to reside. Shallows, weed beds, shoreline vegetation, drop-offs, channels, shoals, cliffs, outlets, inlets, springs, wind direction and drift lines, ice cover, plant cover, reservoirs, natural lakes, fishing strategies, beaver ponds and selecting alpine lakes are discussed including breathtaking video, stills and audible descriptions.

Aquatic Environment: components which relate to fish in their aquatic environment are aquatic plants, temperature, light, oxygen, ph, and surface film. Each is discussed so that the angler has a better understanding of the factors that influences a fish's behavior.

Wading: different kinds of wading equipment and suggestions for safety and avoiding a spill including text, diagrams, video and stills illustrating the principles of wading.

Float Tubes and Pontoon Boats: suggestions for access to good fishing areas with these light weight equipment options. Helpful safety suggestions and remedies are gone over including excellent stills and video footage.

Drift Boat Fly Fishing: benefits of drift boats and the best way to fish from them. Lots of colorful photos, diagrams and text for your benefit.

Knots: how to tie some of the most useful for a great fishing experience. Text, photos, visual and audio explanation for the most used knots.

Angler Etiquette: probably one of the most important chapters. There are plenty of beautiful areas to practice your sport. We all need to use the golden rule ("Do unto others what you would have them do unto you") when fishing so this wonderful activity.
