Slavery in America is a database containing more than 600 relevant documents selected by leading scholars. It enables students, faculty and patrons to study the institution of slavery from the 17th century through the end of the 19th century. Personal narratives, pamphlets, addresses, monographs, sermons, political speeches and periodicals document key aspects of the institution of slavery. Library patrons will receive a structured access to the contents through the Subject Guide, Browse Topics option and through keyword, subject, author, title and full-text searches. From the transatlantic slave trade to the post-Civil War period life and politics, the primary source documents – along with poems, songs, plays and novels – make history come to life.
