The goal in writing topics on metabolic diseases is spread among specialists and primary care physician, some of the most frequent pathologies in this area of knowledge, considering the importance they have in our time. The high prevalence of metabolic diseases, among which stand the metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus, motivates us to seek to spread their importance. The growing presence of obesity and diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2) in children and adolescents is a serious situation that should provoke serious reflection on these diseases. The Mexican Academy of Surgery, always attentive and concerned about the task of the physician, offers these thoughts on these issues, hoping that will be useful and help Mexican doctors to fight the pandemics that represent the so-called chronic diseases.
