Harvey Williams Cushing Papers, 1745-1965

A neurological surgeon, Harvey Williams Cushing advanced the treatment of gunshot wounds of the head during World War I and developed methods for the study and treatment of intracranial tumors. These papers consist of correspondence, subject files, diaries, and writings documenting his professional career at the Harvard Medical School and Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston; his research on brain tumors; military service; prolific writings, including a 1926 Pulitzer Prize-winning biography of Sir William Osler; and his ardent book collecting interests. Also included are Cushing material from the Medical Historical Library at the Yale School of Medicine.
