FBI File on the NAACP

  • Published by Scholarly Resources, Inc.

These files on the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) cover the years 1923 to 1957, and reflect bureau investigations into the NAACP's supposed connections with the Communist party.

The records contain information on each branch of the NAACP, which was founded in 1909 to advocate equal rights for African Americans. Included are reports of the association's annual conferences, with President Truman's address to the 38th annual meeting in 1947; copies of the NAACP's official publication; correspondence between the NAACP executive secretary and J. Edgar Hoover; Communist Party publications; and references to black leaders.
