FBI File on the National Negro Congress

  • Published by Scholarly Resources, Inc.

The National Negro Congress (NNC) was founded in 1935 "to carry forward the militant spirit of [the Negro] people and secure full citizenship rights, especially those guaranteed by the 13th, 14th, and 15 Amendments to the federal Constitution." The association of the group's founders with the Communist Party and the NNC's attempts to unite black labor organizations brought it under FBI surveillance from the 1930s through the 1950s. Among these files materials are synopses of news reports regarding the NNC, announcements of its meetings, copies of its constitution and membership rosters, and the bureau's investigative reports.
