The New York Public Library's Schomburg Center has assembled representative issues of over 150 black newspapers, both foreign and domestic. The collection, reproduced in this microfilm edition, includes a few papers from the nineteenth century, but the great majority date from this century. The cities and countries represented include New York, Peoria, Louisville, St. Paul, Chicago, New Orleans, Belgium, Algeria, South Africa, Mexico, and Ghana.
The newspapers are arranged in alphabetical order by title; in the few cases where more than one issue is provided, the issues are in chronological order. These varied newspapers provide a fascinating overview of the concerns of blacks throughout the world.
