Plains and the Rockies, 1800-1865

  • Published by Primary Source Microfilm

The Plains and the Rockies, a cornerstone collection of the early history of the West, is based on the H. R. Wagner and C. L. Camp bibliography of the same name published in 1920. Included are books, magazine articles, Federal documents and newspaper articles describing personal experiences written between 1800 and 1865.

The material selected covers a geographic scope from the region lying between the Missouri River and the Sierra Nevada Cascades, through Canada east of the Red River, and from Mexico to the Arctic.

The Plains and the Rockies provides access to the basic documents on the Lewis and Clark expedition, the fur trade and wagon trains. The travels of the early Mormons, railroad surveys and other primary source information about the early West are also included.
