She was known as the friend of Dr. Samuel Johnson and the irrepressible Mistress of Streatham. Now scholars are rediscovering Hester Thrale-Piozzi as an author in her own right.

The manuscripts cover the business affairs of Thrale's first husband and the coterie of literary and artistic figures who attended her lunches, including Samuel Johnson, David Garrick and others.
