Sixteenth- and Seventeenth-Century Manuscripts from the Rawlinson Collection

  • From the Bodleian Library, Oxford

  • Published by Primary Source Microfilm

The papers bequeathed in 1755 by Dr. Richard Rawlinson are perhaps the most distinguished and varied of the rich manuscript holdings of the Bodleian Library, Oxford. Each of the selected volumes has been reproduced in its entirety. They cover proceedings in Parliament, royal financial problems and projects, the difficulties of administration, and the affairs of Ireland and Scotland -- all of which chronicle the developing crisis of the early Stuarts. A major portion of the Rawlinson collection consists of the exceptionally rich and varied papers of Samuel Pepys. The material reveals the immense range of business with which a government secretary was involved.
