Drawn from the superb holdings of Cambridge University Library, this collection of nearly 100 manuscripts from the 7th to the 12th centuries makes possible an extended analysis of learning and literature during this time. These rare and often exceedingly beautiful manuscripts cover the entire period of Old English literature and present the Anglo-Saxon, Latin and other traditions extant in Britain to the end of the 12th century. They include literary, theological and philosophical works, psalters, lives of saints, charters, gospels, historical miscellanies and bestiaries. Found here are all items listed in Ker's Catalogue of Manuscripts Containing Anglo-Saxon and those listed in Gneuss's Manuscripts Written or Owned in England before 1200.
Other authors found in this collection are Peter Abelard, St. Ambrose, Archbishop Dunstan, Eusebius, Gerald of Wales, Gregorius, Isidore, Juvencus, St. Jerome, Lanfranc, Peter Lombard, Macrobius, Origen, Prosper, Sedulius, William Monk of Meldun and Wulfstan. A printed guide is included.
