This collection includes all volumes in the Scribner British Writers series, including British Writers (the 7-vol. base set and all supplements), British Writers Retrospective, and British Writers Classics. The British Writers Supplements include authors who have never been featured in British Writers, while the retrospective volumes re-examine some of the most important and influential writers in the British canon already covered in British Writers. The classic volumes focus on famous works - many of which are required reading in schools and colleges. Each classics volume includes 20-25 accessible essays, each on a single work of British literature. Examples include Geoffrey Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales, Jane Austen's Emma, and Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights.
"A standard reference tool for biocritical information, this gives students a very respectable way to launch a research project...This may also me integrated into Gale's Literature Resource Center as an add-on."
