Durante todo el periodo prehispanico, los alfareros mesoamericanos elaboraron vasijas de diversas formas y tamanos. Entre las creaciones mas pequenas se distinguen aquellas piezas que en la actualidad identificamos con el nombre de miniaturas arqueologicas, por ser estas reproducciones a escala de piezas mas grandes.
