Violence Against Women. Edited by Kate Burns. Detroit, Mich.: Greenhaven Press Thomson Gale, 2008. 1 vol. 221 p. $36.20. ISBN 10: 0-7377-3729-8; 13: 978-0-7377-3729-5.

Violence Against WomenViolence against women is not limited to male versus female. A 2006 YouTube Web site showed three female teenagers beating a 12-year-old girl. Primary source documents are divided under chapter titles including "Is Violence Against Women in the United States a Serious Problem," "What Causes Violence Against Women?", "Are Current Approaches to Reducing Violence Against Women Effective?" and "What Is the Extent of Violence Against Women Worldwide?" These reprinted articles begin with a one sentence introduction of the author. Their brief comments are found in inset boxes placed throughout the research findings and statistics which support debates about the prevalence of, the causes of, and the violence against women. One article proposes "Female Genital Mutilation Is a Serious Problem." Appendixes include Organizations to Contact and a brief Bibliography.
