Discrimination. Edited by Jacqueline Langwith. Detroit, Mich.: Greenhaven Press Thomson Gale, 2008. 1 vol. 247 p. $38.20. ISBN 10: 0-7377-3739-5; 13: 978-0-7377-3739-4.

DiscriminationStudents will find arguments about major discrimination in the U.S.: racial (Middle-class Blacks are or are not discriminated against), gender (Is Title IX helpful or harmful?), religious discrimination (racial profiling of Muslims), and sexual orientation (same-sex marriage). Chapter titles ask four questions: "Does Discrimination Exist in the United States?", "How Does Discrimination Impact American Society?", "Is Affirmative Action an Effective Remedy for Discrimination?" and "What Impact Does the Government Have on Discrimination in the U.S.?" Each of the reprinted primary source articles begin with a quotation, an introduction to the issue and questions for the reader to consider. Inset boxes offer additional information and charts. Chapters end with a one page list of periodical articles. Appendixes include "For further discussion (1-4 questions for each chapter, six pages of "Organizations to Contact," and a 4-page bibliography of books.) This is an excellent source for researching both sides of these important issues.
