Date Rape. Edited by Christine Watkins. Detroit, Mich.: Greenhaven Press Thomson Gale, 2007. 1 vol. 109 p. $29.95. ISBN 10: 0-7377-3681-X; 13: 978-0-7377-3681-6

Date RapeIn these brief essays, students learn facts about date rape which may be missing or elusive in television shows or read about victims of date rape: that date rape is a serious crime; that victims are left with lifelong feelings of anxiety, depressing, self-blame, and betrayal; and that it is a most difficult crime to prove. Debate issues include "Alcohol Contributes to Most Cases of Date Rape" and "Alcohol Is Not the Cause of Date Rape;" "The Definition of Rape Has Been Unfairly Changed" and "The Definition of Rape Has Been Duly Clarified" "Legislation Is Needed to Protect Rape Victims" and "Legislation Is not Needed to Protect Rape Victims." This is not an easy topic to address, but one that high school students need to recognize as a threat to their safety.
