Reference for Students

Shakira. By Holly Day. Detroit, Mich.: Lucent Books Thomson Gale, 2007. 104 p. $32.45. ISBN 10: 1-59018-974-4; 978-1-59018-974-0.

Shakira A teenager spotted this book on my desk and said, "What are you doing with a book about Shakira?" My response, "Should it be in a library?" "It would be great for someone who needed to write a report." This would be a good reference for someone who needed to write a book report or for someone who wanted a quick read about an interesting celebrity. It has beautiful color photos and the length is short. The text is interesting and the vocabulary not all that challenging. It might also encourage the reader to look into her life at the present time to see if her projects are moving forward. It would also be interesting to ask a student to expand the events listed on the two pages of "Important Dates" in the appendix.
