Freedom of religion is protected by the U.S. Constitution, but this does not necessarily protect those who worship in a particular way and their right to do so without discrimination. Today, this freedom has caused a renewed debate about what happens in schools and offers insight into the seemingly closing gap between the separation of the church and state. Chapters include “The Government Should Protect Americans from Religious Intrusion,” “The Government Should Allow Religion in Education,” “Religious Expression is Discouraged by the U.S. Military,” “Religious Expression Is Not Discouraged by the U.S. Military,” “Discrimination Against Muslims Is Highly Exaggerated” and “Discrimination Against Muslims in American Must Stop.” Students today who study the religious diversity here and the controversy around religious freedom will learn the similarities (often many) and differences (often not so wide a chasm) between the religions of the world. Most of them are practiced here and this could lead to a more tolerant attitude in our youth.
