The many CSI-type series on television have made the laboratory appear to be the magic element in all cases. However, this is not an accurate presentation. This series shows how crimes may actually be solved and, while modern technology is helpful, careful investigation is essential. The books, useful in middle and high schools for students who have reading challenges, have a similar format, with color pages and photographs, brief facts in boxes, sidebars and textboxes with additional information. Appendixes include three to five pages of notes and a two-page bibliography of books and Web sites. This is one of those choices to make between the reference section and one belonging in the non-fiction collection.
