Students will enjoy the preliminary explanations for each of these primary sources. Beginning with the name of the document, its original publication is given, the source and a quotation. Margin notes contain definitions. The primary source is followed by "What happened next…," "Did you know..," and "Consider the following." A brief bibliography of books and web sites allows students to expand their studies. While many of the sources surround Elizabeth I, the introductions to excerpts from Raleigh's "History of the World" and Shakespeare's plays and two of his sonnets will add another point of view.
