Multicultural Films: A Reference Guide. By Janice R. Welsch and J. Q. Adams. Westport, CT: Greenwood Press, 2005. 1 vol. 248 p. $49.95. ISBN 0-313-31975-8.

This is a recommended resource for finding quality films.

Teachers and students will welcome this list of more than 150 films on multiculturalism. Arranged by race/ethnic group, the films are in sections representing African, Arab, Asian, European, Latino/a and Native Americans. Some films may represent more than one group. Each section begins with an overview followed by the individual entries with title, date, producers, directors, distributor, length, rating and type (documentary, family drama, action/adventure/comedy, coming of age drama, drama) and a description of the film. The appendixes have films by theme, film distributors and their Web sites and a selected bibliography by race/ethnic group. While securing films is always dependent upon budgets, a picture continues to be worth a thousand words and these help expand understanding of all and they should be helpful in increasing student acceptance of differences. Highly recommended.
