Rules & Permissions

On the right are the complete contest rules. Here are the basics. We have a serious legal team, so make sure you comply or they tell us we can't consider your video… and nobody wants that.

  • You must be 13 years of age or older to enter. If you are younger than 18 years of age at the time you enter the contest, you must have your parent or legal guardian submit a downloadable permission form.
  • If you're the only person in your video, when you submit it, you are agreeing to the rules and permissions outlined here. However, anyone appearing in your video needs to sign a downloadable permission form and e-mail it to: linda.busse@cengage.com or mail it to:

  • Videos must be no longer than sixty seconds.
  • You must include the image of Gale's "Power to the user" icon somewhere in your video. There are downloadable versions of this artwork posted on the Librareo Web site for your convenience (although you may create your own facsimile of this image).
  • You have from Sunday, April 12 until midnight on Monday, June 1, 2009 to submit your video to the Librareo Group on YouTube.

  • A panel of judges will determine five finalist videos based on the following criteria:
    • Creativity (25%)
    • Unique and persuasive statement promoting library services (50%)
    • Overall appeal (25%)
    • The "Power to the user" icon must appear in the video in some form.
  • Five finalists will be determined by Friday, July 1, 2009 based on the decision of our panel of judges.
  • We encourage participants and others to help persuade our panel of judges by adding comments to the individual entries on the Librareo Group on YouTube between June 1 – July 1, 2009.
  • The Grand Prize Winner, determined by our judges, will be announced at the Gale booth at the American Library Association 2009 Annual Conference in Chicago on July 11, 2009 and simultaneously posted on the Librareo Web site.
