Search 1: Impact of the media during the US military involvement in Vietnam.

  1. Open Gale Virtual Reference Library
  2. Enter "media and Vietnam War" and use the "Keyword" option
  3. Click on the "Search" button. More than 30 results


Search 2: Biographical/Reference information on Maya Angelou.

  1. Open Gale Virtual Reference Library
  2. Enter "Maya Angelou" and choose the “Document Title” option
  3. Click on the "Search" button. More than 20 results with the person’s name in the document title


Search 3: Look for an image from the long-running Joe Camel advertising campaign.

  1. Open Gale Virtual Reference Library
  2. Select Advanced Search screen
  3. Select “Image Caption” from the pull-down menu
  4. Enter “Joe Camel”
  5. Click on the “Search” button. All results are images with the search query words contained in the image caption

Beyond Searching

Be sure to note the navigational features of the eBooks, which allow you to browse a title without searching. Here is an example:

  1. Open Gale Virtual Reference Library.
  2. Beneath the search box, select the “View Publications” link next to the subject area “Business”
  3. Select Business Information Handbook.
  4. Read the description and note links.
  5. Select the eTable of Contents and open any article.
  6. At the top of the article, select the eBook Index.
  7. Follow any link in the index directly to the article.
