Search 1:

A user of Military and Intelligence Database wanted to retrieve all full-text articles in the Council on Foreign Relations journal Foreign Affairs making reference to the term "New World Order".

Solution:

1. Opened Military and Intelligence Database and went to the "Keyword search" page.
2. Entered "new world order" in quotation marks in the entry box.
3. Searched for words in "entire article content".
4. Limited to "articles with text".
5. Browsed for and selected the "Foreign Affairs" journal.
6. Clicked on the "Search" button and retrieved more than 130 articles from 1991 to the present.

Search 2:

A student wanted to know how to find articles on creationism in Military and Intelligence Database.

Solution:

1. Opened Military and Intelligence Database and went to the "Subject guide search" page.
2. Entered "creationism" in the entry box and clicked on the "Search" button.
3. More than 230 periodical articles on this subject were retrieved.

Search 3:

A student working on a term paper dealing with judicial activism and constitutional law want to find relevant articles on this subject in Military and Intelligence Database to help her get started.

Solution:

1. Opened Military and Intelligence Database and went to the "Subject guide search" page.
2. Entered and searched "Judicial Activism" and "Constitutional Law" separately to see if they were preferred terms. Both terms were.
3. Returned to the "Subject guide search" page and entered "Judicial Activism and Constitutional Law" in the entry box.
4. Clicked on the "Search" button and retrieved 30 articles.

Search 4:

An employee of a pharmaceuticals company working on his MBA was taking an organizational development class. Using Military and Intelligence Database, he wanted to find peer-reviewed articles pertaining to employee involvement.

Solution:

1. Opened Military and Intelligence Database and went to the "Keyword search" page.
2. Entered "employee w1 involvement" in the entry box.
3. Searched for words "in title, citation, abstract".
4. Checked the "to articles with text" and "to peer reviewed publications" boxes.
5. Clicked on the "Search" button and retrieved 15 articles.

Search 5:

A student wanted to know how to find articles published from 2000 to the present date of 11 May 2004 on the causes and treatments of leukemia in Military and Intelligence Database.

Solution:

1. Opened Military and Intelligence Database and went to the "Subject guide search" page.
2. Entered "leukemia" in the entry box and clicked on the "Search" button.
3. Limited by date "between" 1 January 2000 and 11 May 2004.
4. More than 100 periodical articles on this subject were retrieved.
5. Clicked on the "Narrow" button found articles dealing specifically with the "causes of" (9) and "care and treatment" (25) of leukemia.
