books (most are full-text) for information on current events, the
arts, science, popular culture, health, people, government, history,
sports and more.
Search 1:
A student using InfoTrac Junior Edition was looking
for full-text articles on making paper airplanes.
Solution:
- Opened InfoTrac Junior Edition and went to the "Subject
guide search" page.
- Checked the "to articles
with text" box.
- Entered "paper airplane*"
in the entry box and clicked on the "Search" button.
- The preferred term "Paper
Airplanes" appeared and the "View" button under
it was clicked.
- Retrieved were five relevant articles.
Search 2:
A student working on a report
on Singapore needed to find an encyclopedia reference in InfoTrac Junior Edition to help
her get some general country information for her report.
Solution:
- Opened InfoTrac Junior Edition and went to the "Subject
guide search" page.
- Entered "Singapore"
and clicked on the "Search" button.
- Clicked on the "View" button under "Singapore" next to "1 Encyclopedia
excerpt" to retrieve an encyclopedia reference from The Columbia
Encyclopedia, Edition 6, 2000.
Search 3:
A student working on a paper on U.S. President James Polk wanted to find some
full-text articles about some of the major events of his presidency in InfoTrac
Junior Edition.
Solution:
- Opened InfoTrac Junior Edition and went to the "Subject
guide search" page.
- Entered "James Polk"
in the entry box and checked the "to articles with text"
box.
- Clicked on the "Search" button retrieved more than 10 reference, newspaper and periodical articles that fulfilled
the student's request.
Search 4:
A student was given the task of finding a list of full-text articles about
relations between Israel and Syria in InfoTrac Junior Edition.
Solution:
- Opened InfoTrac Junior Edition and went to the "Keyword
search" page.
- Entered "Israel* and Syria*"
in the entry box and selected "Search for words in title,
citation, abstract".
- Checked the "to articles
with text" box.
- Clicked on the "Search"
button and retrieved more than 50 articles.
Search 5:
A student working on a term paper
about Condoleezza Rice's activities as National Security Advisor
in the George W. Bush Administration wanted to find a list of full-text articles in InfoTrac Junior Edition.
Solution:
- Opened InfoTrac Junior Edition and went to the "Subject guide search" page.
- Entered "Condoleezza Rice" in the entry box.
- Checked the "to articles
with text" box.
- Limited by date "after"
19 January 2001.
- Clicked on the "Search" button and retrieved more than 200 full-text
newspaper and periodical articles.
